SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – More than 4,000 flags were placed on graves at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City on Thursday, May 22.
The gesture honors veterans who have passed away. This is the seventh year the flags have been placed on those grave sites.
Organizers told KTIV this year has been the largest turnout since the tradition began.
“This is a testament to our community. Our community is heavily military. They’re higher than any percentage in the country and in our area,” said Commander of American Legion Post 697, René LaPierre. “And this is more a testament to who we are as a community, and that we never forget veterans.” See full story here
